Some housekeeping before today’s article. I won’t be providing anymore Decks of the Week articles for the time being. Previously I had the time to write them up and post them, but I will not anymore. I still will provide Magic Monies and Destiny Fire Sale on a weekly basis. Also, sorry I missed Fire Sale last week. Got sidetracked at work. I plan on posting up something special at the end of the week to make up for it. Should lead to some other weekly content to those who enjoy terrible football (hint-hint).
The Modern Big Bad - Dredge
Many speculators have been saying to get into these cards while getting is good. Today is the day that paid off for most of them. [mtg_card]Greater Gargadon[/mtg_card], [mtg_card]Conflagrate[/mtg_card], [mtg_card]Bridge from Below[/mtg_card], [mtg_card]Dakmor Salvage[/mtg_card], and [mtg_card]Golgari Grave-Troll[/mtg_card] all got reason spike in both regular and foil editions. Some even think that [mtg_card]Collective Defiance[/mtg_card] could be supported in this deck, which is a card I’ll get to later. The one thing I want to say about this deck is that buying into cards from it is a tad risky. The deck is known for getting fast kills consistently as quickly as turn 3. That kind of speed makes the deck a target for bannings. My advice, get out while you can. Typically, they hit card that gets little play outside the deck. Hard to say what that is in this deck. Maybe [mtg_card]Prized Amalgam[/mtg_card]. Greater Garadon is probably safe for the play in gets in a low tier [mtg_card]Restore Balance[/mtg_card] deck. I would think since it was just unbanned, Golgari Grave-Troll is probably also safe. Everything else feels like free game.
Collective Defiance
I recall saying that [mtg_card]Collective Defiance[/mtg_card] is probably pretty good in Standard. I feel confirmed now. While the deck is getting play all over the place, one particular deck of notice is UR Burn. I don’t think this card could get too much higher than the $6 range, so feel free to sell if you have some extras.
